Protecting Style Prep

Protective styles generally  last for about 3-8 weeks ,how can you insure that your hair will hold up over  time.Essentially protective styles are usually done to give hair a bit of a break from the daily manipulation. However often times they do the opposite,Leaving breakage and damage in the aftermath. How can this be avoided. Here are a few tips and tricks that can assist in avoiding this common pitfall.

Before you get a protective style

  1. Wash and deep condition your hair.Your hair is going to be locked in a style for three to eight weeks, therefore you want to ensure that it is clean (for hygiene purposes) as well as that it is healthy.A good wash and a deep conditioning treatment will ensure just that.
  2. Know your hair and style it accordingly, too often  we embark on hairstyles that our hair simple can't manage,if you have fine thin hair micro braiding may not be the best suited style as it may increase hair loss. Don't allow Instgram to reel you in,Consider the condition of your hair and choose a style that will enhance without causing damage.
  3. Remember your real hair some of us believe that a protective style is reason to completely neglect your hair and scalp.NO ,you may have to find creative ways or one step solutions to clean ,moisturize etc but do find a way to treat your hair while wearing your protective style
  4. Take down : be gentle and careful to avoid removing your hair,at some point or another I think we have all made this mistake.Being too rough or hasty may just cost you your edges or a lock of hair,so take your time be gentle and if possible get assistance.
  5. After take down another good wash and deep conditioning treatment is in order, I would suggest a moisture treatment and maybe even follow up with a hot oil, depending on how long you kept your protective style,
As always I hope you found this information helpful and that you have an amazing week, until next time.

Thought of the week
Be yourself.there is ONLY one you..
